Biography (EN)
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Kaï Chun Chang lives in Paris and works in Issy-les-Moulineaux following his graduation from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2018.
The artist perceives the world through the diverse qualities and forms of light, capturing them in materials such as acrylic, oil paint, and ink. Over the past decade, he has focused on representing light itself—especially the iridescent fragments from prisms and rainbows, alongside sources like screens, windows, and subterranean light. Driven by this sustained practice, he transforms physical paint into delicate luminosity, engaging viewers through elusive optical experiences while generating subtle yet powerful movement. In recent years, he has interpreted light in a more personal and metaphysical manner by introducing varied textures and embracing the notions of landscape and still life. Here, light becomes a medium to manifest emotion and humanity, transmuting personal experience into a universal narrative.
In 2023, Kaï Chun Chang was selected for the 73rd edition of the Jeune Création Prize, having previously been named a finalist for the International Painting Prize of Vitry-sur-Seine in 2018. His works are held in public collections across France, China, and Taiwan, as well as notable private collections internationally. In 2026, his work was featured at the Musée d'Art Contemporain de Marseille (MAC). Following solo exhibitions in Paris (2024) and Brussels (2026), his most recent solo exhibition opened at Michael Ku Gallery in Taipei.
